A rare moment of clarity from Richard Dawkins, “I am known as a frequent critic of Christianity and have never been de-platformed for that. Why do you give Islam a free pass? Why is it fine to criticize Christianity but not Islam?”
The context is that a California radio station cancelled a book event due to “abusive speech against Islam.”
Indeed, as I quote John Cornwell within a soon to be published book of mine, “Where would Dawkins be without Jesus’s extraordinary impact on the Western world? Quite a bit poorer, for one thing.” Yes, openly abusing Christianity and the Bible is quite lucrative.
But as far as Islam, Dawkins notes that he referred to Islamism as “vile” and that Islamism is not the same as Islam, adding, “I have criticised the appalling misogyny and homophobia of Islam, I have criticised the murdering of apostates for no crime other than their disbelief. Far from attacking Muslims, I understand – as perhaps you do not – that Muslims themselves are the prime victims of the oppressive cruelties of Islamism, especially Muslim women.”
Many years ago I critiqued Dawkins since (because Atheism is primarily an anti-Christian support group) within “The God Delusion” he 99.9% besmirched the Bible (and Judaism and Christianity) and just about the only thing he stated about Islam was not actually about Islam (given his view that Islamism is not the same as Islam) since he merely sidestepped the issue by writing, “the Taliban of Afghanistan, whose list of cruelties, especially to women, I find too painful to recount” (pp. 301-302).
Yes Prof. “liberalism” is dogmatic militancy (just as Atheism is dogmatheistic militancy).
